BAHS junior, Danica, won the WisdomK12 Ladies of LAUNCH speech contest! Partnering with the Pittsburgh Technology Council and FortyX80, this STEM-focused program is dedicated to empowering 10th & 11th grade girls’ leadership in science & technology.  

Through her participation in the LAUNCH program, Danica has been working on a Advocacy Unleashed project to bring dental education, supplies and care to underserved people in the Dominican Republic.

Danica’s speech demonstrated creativity, insight and a promising aptitude for storytelling. It focused on her advocacy and practical actions to introduce essential dental education to children in the Dominican Republic, reflecting her dedication to global health and educational equity.

A U.S. official has talked with Danica about publishing her children’s book and setting up a dental clinic in the Dominican Republic.  Dr. Martone’s office has donated dental supplies for this mission.

Congratulations to BAMS 8th graders: Alayna & Amelia!  They will have their artwork on display as part of the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Youth Exhibition, which runs from April 20-28, 2024.  

Both artists participated in an art program on Saturdays at the Museum, where they studied and created artworks, and helped to curate the exhibition, along with other student artists from Western PA!
